150 Years of Service: Illustrated by 150 Orders of Service

Written and curated by David Latchman for United Synagogue’s 150th anniversary

For 150 years the United Synagogue has been the bedrock of the Anglo Jewish community since it was established by an Act of Parliament. Filled with a wide selection of rare Judaica from the order of service marking the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria to the coronation of King George VI and the send of WW2, this ground-breaking works curated by Professor David Latchman, opens a window into the community like never before. The book is grouped by theme, including Monarchy, Lifecycle, Religious Life, Chief Rabbis, Persecution and War.

This book was created alongside Professor David Latchman, who provided items from his personal collection. He has been building his collection since childhood, and shared works including prayers, letters, commemorative services and more to help illustrate the book. This very special piece reflects on the unique position the United Synagogue has held for over a century and a half.
